Porphyry floors
Porphyry is an extrusive volcanic rock (eruptive Phylonian or extrusive paleo-volcanic).
Porphyry consists of large-grained crystals dispersed in a fine-grained vitreous groundmass.
Based on the nature of the rock, there is: quartz porphyry, made mainly of quartz; granite porphyry made of quartz, orthoclase and mica; syenitic porphyry etc.
The ancient red and green porphyry famous for their beauty are actually porphyrites. The color of porphyry however, generally ranges form light grey to a medium brown.
This kind of rock is often suitable for exterior applications because its main feature is the high resistance to very low and high temperatures.
Porphyry is particularly used in various types of floorings and also in coverings for walls and plaques.
Historically, porphyry was used by the Etruscans and the Romans for works of art and building projects.Trentino is one of the most famous areas of extraction and treatment of porphyry.
