Glossary [14]

marble cobbles: sheets of marble that are sawn and reduced to smaller parts to obtain the characteristic round stone shape. The beauty of marble, together with the dynamic quality of cobbles lends itself to the creation of personalised floors of great effect.

metamorphism: phenomenon that concerns metamorphic rocks which consists in a change of shape of the same. Due to metamorphism, through the contact or fusion with other rocks, the rocks undergo crystallisation and a variation of their chemical properties.

microcrystalline: said of the crystalline structure of rocks, also called felsitic, visible only under the microscope.

mineral impurities: impurities are found when external elements penetrate a mineral or rock which are not of the mineral or rock but change its chemical composition and in some cases its appearance. The stage of aggregation of the elements affects the colour of the mineral which can present more or less visible impurities. In marble for example some impurities that can be present are clay, lime, sand, iron oxides, flint nodules.

mixture: different components amalgamated to each other, called components of the mixture, which without losing their chemical features mix deeply into a homogenous complex. The different mixtures which make up the resins for floors give the possibility of achieving an enormous variety of surfaces, colours, and shades for each tile.
