cobbles: ovoid stones, whose surfaces have been smoothened and softened by collision with other stones transported by rivers or glaciers. The cobbles are commonly used in covering facades of buildings, floors and walls for ornamental purposes.

common granite: granite which contains plagioclase is called alkalicalcic or, due to its widespread diffusion, common granite.

compactness: properties of some materials or some rocks of being joined in their constituting parts. Compact rocks, like granite for example, are suited for cladding external paving which must be long-lasting and resist sharp changes in temperature.

cooked clay: generically also called "terracotta". After the clay has been baked in specific ovens, it is called baked and this procedure gives it the browned colour with shades that range from red to yellow.

crystal: in chemistry crystal indicates a solid homogenous substance with a defined and polyderic form. With a three dimensional structure, crystal is formed by particles in regular intervals in three dimensions.
